I hate to say ….

“I told you so” …… but:

Bad news for 'Save Bright". The front page of this week's Bright Observer confirms 'the rumour'.

Bad news for the Save Bright group - the front page of this week's Bright Observer confirms the information that was reported here last week

And the news just gets worse for those who tried so hard for so long to stop this development.

According to the report, developer Condaw properties says they expect the development to be completed “by early next year”. Still, it seems some people are determined to live in denial, with two Save Bright members casting doubts over this latest news:

“What we have now is a developer desperate to find a tenant. It’s hard to imagine Woolworths finding the project any more viable than Coles. There’s little doubt Woolworths will reach a similar conclusion (to Coles) after doing their reserarch.”

Hmm, I’d put that statement in the category of wishful thinking. From what I understand Woolies (*) is NOT going to be the tenant per se, and what’s happened is they’ve actually purchased the entire site and approved plans from the developer … and I don’t think they’d do that if they weren’t rather serious about going ahead!

(* By the way, whose spelling do you think is right, the Bright Observer with “Woollies” or mine with just one “l”? According to my spell-check it’s actually Woollies, although that’s an American spell-checker and they’re not always right. I just don’t see how you pick up an extra “l” by abbreviating Woolworths, do you?)

Ray just how reliable are Condaw?
A supermarket takes 44 weeks to construct and equip let alone any demolition work first
Woolworths are well aware theyll have different hurdles to jump with this one before it goes ahead
It is not unusual for them to buy land sit on it and renew permits upon expiry until they view the project as viable
As i have said to you once before its far too early for the champagne
Tell the reliable source that too

I don’t know how “reliable” Condaw is AC. But you sound like you’ve also got a case of “wishful thinking”.

Perhaps you have a specific reason for not wanting Woolies to open in Bright – a commercial one maybe?

Anyway, it’s simply a case of wait and see. Hopefully it’ll happen and then Bright will continue to grow.

I think I’d say Woolies. But the whole term is just wack to me, its Safeway. Woolworths sounds like some shearing shed in the outback.

I prefer Safeway too, LuLi, but apparently they’re going to call this one Woolworths. Btw, thanks for the support on the spelling. I still don’t get how it could pick up an extra “L” by abbreviating it. That kinda defeats the point of abbreviation. Cheers.

Folks, Safeway is dead, Woolworths is bringing all supermarkets back under the one umbrella. Same as what Coles did with Bi-Lo.
