Vote for Ray

How could you not like this bloke?

How could you not like this bloke?

Third time lucky?

I realise some people will suspect otherwise but I can honestly say that until about mid-morning today I was definitely NOT going to nominate for the Alpine council elections.

However, a visit I received from another candidate around 10 am convinced me to give it another go. I just made the cut-off and I was the last candidate to nominate at around 11.45 am (15 minutes before the deadline). Having the forms online was a real help.

Anyway, I’ve nothing further to add at the moment except to say that I’ll be making some temporary changes to this website, which I’ll use to help run my campaign. That means I’ll be archiving a lot of the old posts & comments.

If I’m not elected then I’ll fully re-instate the old website around December 1. If I am elected I’ll just keep it going in its new style. It’s just a blog, after all, so I don’t see any conflict with that.

Good luck, Ray — you’d have my vote if I lived up there!

Go Ray!! You have my vote too! Good luck.

I was quietly hoping that your name would appear – good luck

Good on ya Ray, I’am allowed to vote this year, so my vote will not be wasted. I hope you get in

Damn I wish I lived in the municipality. Good luck Ray. If you win be sure to stick to your ideals and not become part of the beaurocracy.

Good luck, Ray. You can be those people.

Ah, bugger it! I screwed up my own quote. It’s meant to read:

Good luck, Ray. You can be that people.

    Thanks everyone.

Scott, I took it you meant “beat” not “be” those people?

  9. Scott said, on 28 October, 2008 at 3:41 pm

Nah, “I can be that people” is a dumb quote from Lachlan Connor, Independent.

    Dave’s blog isn’t that bad.

Good luck Ray! Hopefully your third failure will give you some closure.

Wah, the blogroll issue did cross my mind but, rather than remove the links and risk offending you, maybe I should put a warning and a disclaimer on the Club Wah link? The others on the blogroll are ‘no risk’.

Besides, anyone who can’t see the funny side of what you write (regardless of their politics) is not going to vote for me anyway. They’ve got a few other humorless types to pick from.

Scott, yeah I could learn a lot from Lachlan.

Lee, I probably wouldn’t have run if you & Nick had – too many candidates makes it too hard. As it is there are 15 candidates and only 7 vacancies so yeah, “failure” (as you so kindly put it) is not only a possibilty it’s what’s going to happen to more than half the field. Six of the candidates are sitting councillors, which makes it even harder for the other 9. But thanks for your kind words.

    Good luck Ray :)

Very impolite of me, Ray, not to acknowledge your candidacy. I do apologise.

I’m not talking preferences with anyone. I’m simply putting the candidates in the order which I would like to see them elected. It’s a bit self indulgent of me, and I will be happily telling other candidates how to maximise their chances through the allocation of preferences whilst not doing it myself.

Anyway, regardless of where you may or may not end up on my HTV (or vice versa), all the best — and have fun.

Well, you know my email address, Zuvele !

Glad to hear you have nominated. It’ll be a bugger if you get in and all our “solving of the world’s problems” over the last few years gets archived away never to see the light of day again. Good luck Ray!

  17. raydixon said, on 28 October, 2008 at 10:59 pm

Thanks Greg. Don’t worry, there are plenty more ‘world problems’ (and footy issues) I could cover if elected. I think the only restriction is that I not discuss the o-so-confidential matters of council.

Anyway, my chances (realistically) are less than 50%, given the number of candidates and the number of incumbents running. It’s worth a ‘crack’ though.

Good luck with having that “crack”, Ray!

Just saw this on Fail Blog. Hope he’s not a voter!

No Bron, he’s from Albury (or ‘Dave’s country’, if you like). There’s no accounting for the logic of the people over there.

    Lucky!

  22. Kieran said, on 29 October, 2008 at 5:50 pm

Whoa, there must have been a last minute rush of nominations, it looked for a while like you might not have a vote. Congratulations on the decision to run Ray.

My only advice, don’t let the couple of sock puppets I see harassing you bog you down in a meaningless back and forth.

Enjoy getting the message out there.

  23. raydixon said, on 29 October, 2008 at 6:15 pm

They don’t bother me, Kieran. I can manage what they say about me, but I draw the line with anyone using this website to unreasonably discredit other candidates … like they’ve attempted to. In the end, that would reflect on me too, so I can’t allow it.
