Final thoughts on the election
By noon Sunday we’ll know the results of the Alpine council elections. I don’t expect to get elected, in fact I’ll be surprised if I poll as many votes as last time (400). Whoever we get we’ll be ’stuck with them’ for the next four years and I have to wonder if it’s just another case of ‘deja vu’ or ‘here we go again’. This area has so much potential but, sadly, it has suffered from a lack of real leadership and direction. While other areas and shires go ahead and are very pro-active in developing new projects and sourcing out theĀ funding for them, here in Alpine it’s like we think we don’t really want to be connected with the real world. Well, to me, that’s what the last few election results have said, as we return council after council that seems to have no new ideas, no vision and no real desire to move ahead. You get the government you deserve, as they say, and this election will tell us if we deserve something better.
