AFL round 1 ‘Round-up’
Double the value!
This year I’m doing two posts for every round.
One with my ‘expert’ tips and the other as a sort-of review, complete with my very astute & succint summaries of every game.
As for the tipping, I’m off to a much better start this year with 6 winners out of 8 from round one.
If I keep that average up I might even become a real expert.
Winners in bold.
Followed by ‘witty’ comments:
Richmond lost to Carlton: It’s the worst ever start to a season - the much despised Carlton are back.
Hawthorn lost to Geelong: But Geelong tried very hard to kick it away. How good is Ablett?
Collingwood lost to Adelaide: It was a very narrow win – which is almost as good as beating them by 10 goals.
Brisbane defeated West Coast: In a game of nearly zero interest to most Victorians.
St Kilda defeated Sydney: The Saints wouldn’t want to give too many sides a 5 goal start. Great game by Kosi.
Melbourne lost to Nth Melbourne: And night follows day.
Pt Adelaide defeated Essendon: It was almost an act of cruelty to send this year’s wooden spooners to S.A.
Fremantle lost to Bulldogs: By plenty. Maybe the Bulldogs can keep it going this year. Freo looks … well, like Freo.
Highlight of the round: St Kilda’s mid-game ‘throttling’ of Sydney when they kicked 11 unanswered goals.
Lowlight: Richmond.

Love the way the Pies are complaining about umpiring and going to talk to Andrew directly!
That’s even sweeter than the win!
Sure is, JB. Congatulations to Adelaide on making the supporters of the other 9 Melbourne clubs very happy with the start of the season. Wanna bet on next Friday’s game, Crows v Sainters?
Ummm…..Not really!
At least you’re now allowed to drink beer in your seats at AAMI (as well as Chardonnay).
I know!
You should hear all the complaining! It’s truely amazing stuff.
Complaints from Adelaide supporters, you mean? I doubt Port supporters would complain about being allowed to suck stubbies.
Put your money on the Tigers to beat Geelong….I was there on thursday night…another poor miserable Richmond supporter once again found under the seat in the fetal position.
Danger game for the Catters against the Tiges, we have a miserable record against Richmond and especially when they are on the rebound. I might just read a book
Wow, I’m getting excited here Orville & Baldrick. I reckon Richmond would be about 15/1 to beat Geelong and, if you’re both right, there might be some big bikkies to be made. I’m in!
that’s right. Port are for it, Crows are against it.
Cats have a miserable record against the Tigers, Baldrick? I’m still recovering from the small win the cats had over us in 2007!! Tigers paying $8.50 at the min, Ray. Worth $10 or $20 hey?
*has own TAB account that wife doesn’t know about…*
No hype this week so if the Tiggers come within 5 goals I’d be happy…otherwise Leigh Matthews is looking good.
Yeah, I forgot about that 2007 game. Round 6 it was, from memory. Geelong had started the year rather ordinary and after 5 rounds were only 2 – 3. As I recall they kicked 35 goals and won that game by a record 157 points. They then went on to win all but one more game for the year and won the Grand Final by 120 points. Their run continued throughout 2008 with only one loss mid-season and then, of course, that unexplainable loss to Hawthorn in the 2008 GF.
All told, Geelong have won something like 43 out of 46 games since that Richmond game. So I’m blaming Richmond for that! And I won’t be backing them this week, even at 50/1.
Obviously Baldrick was being sarcastic. Such a typical, conceited & over-confident Geelong supporter!! Hmphhhh.
