Any suggestions?

Posted in Uncategorized by Ray Dixon on 30 May, 2009

I’ve got a real problem here. Tomorrow is my sister Lynda’s *0th birthday and I’ve been invited to lunch (and I HAVE to go).

What’s the problem? Well she recently moved from the swine flu-free, leafy eastern suburbs of Melbourne to … the WESTERN side !!!

I’m taking a face mask, but what other precautions should I take?

Put a face mask on everyone else as it stops them from breathing the virus on you

I was born and bred in the western suburbs. And as they say “once a westie, always a westie / you can take the boy out of the west but you can’t take the west out of the boy”.

It comes as no surprise to me Raymond that your sister has become enlightened and moved over from the dark side.

Haven’t heard anything from anyone in the western suburbs being infected. Clifton Hill, Mill Park, Thomastown, Thornbury etc. certainly not west of Sydney road. And who from the western suburbs could afford to go on the Pacific Dawn?

One suggestion, leave your attitude back here because one thing is for certain, the westies can sniff out pretentiousness a mile off. Be warned!!

So I should wear bogan clothes then?

As long as you walk around Bright with an Akubra, drizabone, stockwhip and No Coles for Bright shirt on

The “Akubra, drizabone, stockwhip” I can get from Sophie (especially the whip) but I’d have to go see Lee or Wayne for the T shirt and … they don’t like me!

If things are bad for you in Bright as far as popularity stakes go, better wear a flack jacket out west.

As for masks, their protection lasts about 20 minutes. That’s how long it takes your saliva to penetrate the cloth and become a conductor of anything contagious.

Yeah, I thought those masks were sus. Better just to not breathe in, eh?

Can’t you Skype in for the party? Shit, I’ve just taught everyone I know that I simply do not go over to the wrong side of the river except to get to the airport and on those occasions I take the Hummer with bullet proof glass.

Well I’m back and I survived my escapade into the western suburbs. I had to drive through the northern suburbs to get there too but thank Christ for something called the Western Ring Road. We had lunch at ‘The homestead’ Pt Cook, by the bay. It was really smogged in and you couldn’t see the water.
