Swine flu parties
Let’s spread it around ~ what a great idea!
It’s hard to believe this news story :
“The federal government has warned against people attending swine flu parties to catch the virus and develop immunity before it can mutate into a more severe form.”
Apparently these parties have been held in the United States (which is hardly surprising). The idea being to mix healthy children with sick ones in the hope they’ll get the swine flu virus and develop immunity to any further waves. And now some people in Melbourne are thinking of doing the same (or may have already).
But as Greg Naylor wrote on his blog:
“Who, in their right mind, would organise such a party with the intention of catching the virus? If there were any deaths resulting from this idea, the organisers would stand condemned and should be prosecuted.”
Yeah, it’s a stupid idea.
Memo to the parents: Just keep your swine flu infected kids (and your good self) away from me please. Honestly!

These are the same kind of stupid fucktarded parents who probably oppose vaccinating their children because of some unproven one-in-a-million link to autism.
What the hell happens at these parties do they place the sick kid in the middle of a room and let everyone touch it?
Jesus wept!
I’m just waiting for it to hit Bright, which is full this weekend with a lot of families. Btw, we’ve only got one unit with a ‘kid’ staying here at GG and am I giving them a wide berth or what?
Actually Wah, this is what I said on Greg’s blog:
… why don’t they go the whole hog and see if they can also give each other herpes, the crabs and all manner of sexually transmitted diseases? They could have a ’swinging swine flu party’. Hmm, I might be in that.
I was going to repeat that in my post but then I realised it was a kids’ party!!!
Still, maybe the parents could take the idea up with the other parents?
There was a great episode of South Park where the parents all conspired to expose their kids to chicken pox. As a retaliatory measure the kids got the local hooker, who had herpes, to use their parents’ toothbrushes, wear their underwear, etc etc. Very funny stuff.
… I must be a fucktard parent…
Because you didn’t vaccinate your kids or because you’ve taken them to a swine flu party, Orville?
Didn’t vaccinate the kiddies.
Many reasons but the Autism risk isn’t one of them. I know that there is a theory out there and having investigated the issue with my wife n all I wouldn’t be surprised but hey. Such thinking tends to lead to finger pointing and guilt complex which isn’t a good thing. To say to someone “You’re a bad parent cos you vaccinated you kids and now look at them” is just stupid and also totally goes against your own reasoning not to Vaccinate, which is to do what you as a parent thinks is the right thing for your children. The one thing that did surprise me about the whole issue was the amount of support we had from doctors and nurses.
I don’t know if I’d take them to a swine flu party…sounds kinda stupid. We all get the flu at this time of year anyway so it’s hard to run away from any form of ‘infection’ for want of a better word… which reminds me check this out – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2QAGVMlns4 it’s cool. I don’t agree with the message but the footage is awesome…
But I remember mum chucking me and my brothers in a bath when I was 6-7 with a kid who had chicken pox so as to get it over and done with. Mind you though, that was 24 years ago and quite a lot has changed, even in that short amount of time… except for Richmond of course.
Well I don’t think you can vaccinate against swine flu yet anyway. I agree that it seems like a ‘normal flu’ and maybe we shouldn’t be too concerned about it. Although there are some people who say it could ‘mutate’ into a deadly flu but the info out there suggests it’s likely to mutate out to an even less dangerous pandemic.
Dunno, but I’m also pretty sure that those of us who were around in the 60s and caught the big flu going around then might have immunity to it. At least I hope so.
Sorry about Richmond but I think they’re about to become even more ‘Jaded’.
