Grovelling BM backs Sophie
Is someone chasing The Groper’s old job?
As the Federal Government calls for Sophie Mirabella to give up her portfolio over the bizarre and outrageous sexual harassment involving her ‘key media adviser’ & staffer, Anthony Scrinis, it’s good to know someone has sprung – yet again – to her defence.
Look at the date – this editorial must have been written almost as news of Scrinis’ lewd behaviour was breaking. Why so quick off the mark and why so anxious to effectively praise Ms Mirabella’s so-called ‘prompt response’?
Prompt response my arse, the orders to ‘get rid of him’ came from very senior party officials while the function was still in progress! Yet Sophie claims she was “unaware” of the incidents – was she drunk too?
And in all her interviews since, not once has she clearly acknowledged the behaviour as “inappropriate”, as the Border Mail Editor implies she did. Actually, she made a point of saying that Scrinis did NOT acknowledge all of the allegations.
Of course Ms Mirabella’s competency & judgement are at question here – he’s an idiot and she hired him! And it’s not the first time one of Sophie’s staff has been accused of such “inappropriate” sexual behaviour.
Then there’s the matter of another staffer using her position on the Wangaratta Jazz Festival committee to appoint Sophie’s husband to a cushy 2-year, Government-funded job as head of the event. That was in 2007 and, thankfully, his contract has now expired and he’s been replaced. Poor old Greg is out of a job.
Maybe Sophie should join him.

Wally says: I'm taking y'all to VCAT, Woolies. Go on, git! Git out of 'my town'.

Don’t be so hard on Sophie. She is doing the country a favour. By being a walking timebomb, she, along with half a dozen other rural liberal MPs, are sure to ruin any chance of those conservative scumbags getting back into power.
Carry on Sophie
For sure, BLL. Not only that, there’s now a real chance that Sophie will do ‘the impossible’ and (for the first time in history) hand the previously rock-solid conservative seat of Indi over to the ALP at the next election.
She only needs the same swing against her (about 8%) that she had in 2007 and, believe me, her record is just so tarnished that it’s likely to happen.
I reckon there’ll be a stampede of potential ALP candidates seeking the nomination to run against her. And Zuvele Leschen (who’s tried 3 times) will most likely be over run.
“I reckon there’ll be a stampede of potential ALP candidates seeking the nomination to run against her”
Not ALP style, The stampede usually occurs after the seat is won by a hardworking grassroots alp candidate.
the branch stackers then see an easy to get into parliament by knocking off one of their own
So there’s a chance for me then? Good, I’ll join the ALP tomorrow, get the nomination, win the seat, win it again and then after 2 terms retire on that world’s-most-generous parliamentary pension. I could join Sophie in retirement in the Greek Isles.
That’s the bloody point, BLL, they’re ALL bloody corrupted. The stench reeks from all pores of politics.
Not from me, JR, I’d be clean as a whistle. Well, I’d make sure Bright got some special funding! Vote Ray for Indi. Bring on the debates.
Ray,
You’d have to join the ALP with 1000 friends to get pre-selected, and then hope like hell some corrupt fucker at head office didn’t overturn the “branch’s” wishes, and parachute in a mate to take on Sophie.
I don’t have 1,000 friends, BLL. I don’t even have 100 … or 10 … maybe one, but she’s got the shits with me at the moment.
You’ve got no friends? What happened to icky and sticky at the vet? Or were there post operative complications?
If it makes you feel better Ray, I could be your friend.
Not someone to hang out with on a friday night of course. Sort of an interweb respect arrangement in which we’d never have to meet face to face.
Aw shucks.
