Well it was obviously close to being a draw but I still think the side that won today deserved to win. They took the match on from the start and held the upper hand almost right through. At 3/4 time I felt it was anyone's game but the Saints started the final quarter better and at no stage in that last quarter did I think they'd lose it, even when Geelong drew level. You could see it in their eyes and their determination to push forward. And then ... 'that mark'. Pity about Taylor's head but it was accidental contact in the contest. Both sides worthy 1 and 2. I suggested a week ago that the talls for St.Kilda would be the difference and so they were. Those two marks, Riewoldt's and Gardniers were magnificent. But that Bartel, isn't it weird how it takes a massive match to bring on Brownlow form. Hawkins is raw and needs another two seasons. Is he 20 yet? I was relatively happy with Mooney. It is clear that when he needs to kick through the ball he is far more effective. As for Hall, the Geelong hierachy are intelligent. We wouldn't be where we are now if they weren't. Yeah, there's no doubt that Riewoldt, Koschitzke and Gardiner made the difference. They can take marks in the forward 50 and kick goals, it's that simple. Well in Kosi's case he kicks them from outside 50 too. That's what I said in the tips too - Geelong's weakness is its lack of key marking & running forwards. Although your midfield of Ablett, Bartel & Chapman were unbelievable. Apart from Lenny Hayes I think Geelong beat St Kilda there, so it got down to the defences & attacks. Also, I thought Gardiner had a massive impact around the ground and when he was rested in the 3rd quarter Geelong got those 3 goals and caught up. Don't forget St kilda didn't have King & Hudghton either so I think that at least balances the Johnson omission. I wonder if they could play him as a forward while leaving the ruch to Blake and Mumford. And I wonder if Geelong would ever consider getting Barry Hall? There was an "advantage" paid to Geelong, on their half-fwd flank, with scores tied and about two minutes to go...I don't know how it was an advantage. It should definitely have been brought back.
