No ‘Satisfaction’ in survey

Coming soon to a venue near you ~ The Rolling Stones on their 'Alpine Council Can't Get No Satisfaction' tour.
The Alpine Shire Council has rather sheepishly released this press statement playing down the fact that for the second year in a row its overall performance has fallen, according to the results of the annual Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey. The council’s overall performance is now rated at an embarrassingly low 61%, down from the already ’unacceptable’ result of 63% last year.
The result is lower than the median result for Small Rural Shires and a clear indictment of our councillors, who have only been in office for a little over 6 months. Make no mistake, the worst of the results relate directly to councillor performance.
While areas covered by the administration such as health and human services (76%) and waste management (74%) were quite high, the following results tell us that the 7 ‘Rolling Stones’ are over-the-hill already as far as the community is concerned:
- Advocacy: Community satisfaction rating for council’s advocacy and community representation on key local issues 62%
- Community engagement: Community satisfaction rating for council’s engagement decision making on key local issues 62%
Worse still, the results for key areas such as economic development & planning are conspicuous by their absence from the published results in the press release. I wonder if the council will have the guts to put the full result up on their website? I doubt it.
I’ll take a wild guess and say that in the two key areas of planning & economic development our ‘magnificent seven’ would struggle to rate at even 50%.
In fact it’s not a ‘wild guess’ at all because, as you can see above, ALL of the published results are above the ‘overall’ (i.e. average) result of 61% - some by quite a bit – meaning that areas like planning & economic development must have rated very low indeed in order to bring the average down. No wonder they’re hiding those results.
Overall it’s an extremely poor result for a new lot of councillors. But let’s face it, Mick Jagger & Keith Richard they ain’t – those two know their jobs and how to go about it!

When people complete these surveys and they talk about the COUNCIL they are talking about the administration as well you know that
You need to be objective instead of currying favour
Andrew, please re-read the post & survey results.
I’ve pointed out the areas that are solely the domain of the administration like health and waste management, where the council rated highly.
You can’t avoid the fact that ‘Advocacy’ & ‘Community Engagement’ (where they rated poorly) go to councillors’ performance.
I certainly have been objective.
I’m surprised they rate over 50% on anything, although the rubbish collection is passable. I’d give them a big FAIL on everything else, especially on leadership and economic matters.
Here in Wodonga, after the council being rated best statewide since survey began, it’s taken a dip in popularity.
I think it’s understandable, after council was exposed for giving themselves a hefty (read maximum) pay rise and then some months later making it public, then rubbing it in by asking for ratepayer opinion on the rise.
A bloody travesty in my book.
Ray, you’ve insulted Jagger & Richards by putting those photos of old people next to theirs. And to think – Jagger & Richards are actually much older than all of them (except for the Mayor!)
I reckon the councillors should be playing in that band in the side-bar. In fact, isn’t that Daryl ‘delivering’ on the banjo?
