Alpine Opinion

Be my guest

Posted in Bright Australia by Ray Dixon on 10 July, 2009

Alpine Opinion is looking for guest authors to post articles to this website from time to time. I’d particularly like to encourage more local content, although guest authors can be from anywhere and may choose any topic that interests them (and I’m quite happy to publish opinions that are contrary to mine!)

Authors may use a pseudonym if they don’t wish their identity to be publicly revealed, provided they supply me with their true details (for legal reasons, etc). Submit your articles to ray@grevilleagardens.com. You can add photos if you wish. Please note that I may have to edit some pieces for formatting or legal purposes only but I will not alter or dilute the thrust of your articles.

Go ahead, be my guest.

Gutted that you don’t want Tasmanian stuff Ray – like our awful road toll yesterday. (Just joking, though not about the road toll).

You’re welcome to submit Tassie stuff, Rox, even though the rest of the State can’t read or write.

you’d reckon with two sets of eyes they’d have twice as much chance

Two heads are better than one?

Australia’s “uber” Mexicans want a voice, folks. I say its time to let Rox into the kitchen to see what she can stir up. I hear she’s a spunky sorta kid.

I’m trying to get out of the kitchen, not in.

Two sets of eyes just means twice the incomprehension Baldrick. Not to mention the spelling mistakes.

But if anyone wants explain the allure of sci-fi, have at it.

Except for Alien/s and CS Lewis and Red Dwarf, it’s awful. And only them because of good film-making, writing and comedy respectively.

And here I was trying to give Rox a heave up the ladder. Sheesh!

  9. roxannatas said, on 10 July, 2009 at 5:49 pm

Thank you jr. I wish they hadn’t shot you.

    I’m lost !!

    Dallas.

  12. Ray Dixon said, on 10 July, 2009 at 7:32 pm

    Texas?

Oh Rox! Don’t be hating on Sci Fi. Dr Dave prescribes you a dose of Joss Whedon’s excellent Sci Fi / Western cross over Firefly followed by the new version of Battlestar Galactica.

If you can watch either of those without becoming a sci fi convert then I’d be amazed. The story telling in each of them is exquisite and their sci fi setting allows ideas and situations that you simply can’t otherwise extend story telling to. In good Sci Fi, like Asimov for example, it is the human element that makes the story great.

Dallas makes sense, but WTF is Texas?

  15. Ray Dixon said, on 10 July, 2009 at 11:49 pm

    That’s where Dallas is, JR.

    Ten points, Ray. Ewin(g)

  17. Wal said, on 11 July, 2009 at 1:45 am

Deadwoods’s the place to be Ray.

Surprised you haven’t discovered that one yet, especially in the context of small toooowns. Yeah dude.

So, it’s the social fiction rather than the science Dave? ;)

I’m willing to give it a go, but don’t wish Dr Who on me. I’m still waiting for a repeat of F-Troop.

Hey, how about Sam Newman’s latest display of thuggery? The Footy Show made him, then he ruined it. What an a…hole.

  19. Ray Dixon said, on 11 July, 2009 at 10:21 am

Do you mean Deadwood South Dakota, Wal?

  20. jr said, on 11 July, 2009 at 11:10 am

Probably means the town of Deadwood, between JR’s ears.

  21. Ray Dixon said, on 11 July, 2009 at 11:23 am

I think he was on the wrong topic, JR, and might have been referring to the Bundanoon story – you know, the little town in NSW that’s caused a stir by trying to ban bottled water. That’s real ‘Deadwood’ country.

    http://www.theage.com.au/national/implants-incite-sound-debate-for-the-deaf-20090711-dgrh.html

This article infuriated me. When I was about 10 I nearly went deaf and had to be operated on. Do these parents have right to deny their children the right to hear? Or are they being selfish?

  23. Ray Dixon said, on 12 July, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Yeah, it’s strange Rox. Why don’t you ‘get it off your chest’ and write something about it? I’ll publish it.

Hey, I’m watching the Hawthorn v North game in Tassie at the moment and it’s hailng. There’s also lightning. Let’s hope it hits Franklin … and Roughead, Bateman, etc, etc.
