I think we’ve all experienced our fair share of dickheads doing things like Newman did, but would we report them to the police if we weren’t in any way physically harmed and/or if the property damage was minor?

Maybe she should have kicked him in the nuts or, better still, maybe the onlookers should have come out and slapped him around a bit?

It’d be good to see him get some public humiliation but what will happen now is it’ll go to court and he’ll get a slap on the wrist. And he’ll continue his offensive behaviour.

Depends, Ray. There is public rudeness and public rudeness. If it doesn’t offend someone, fair enough, but if it does offend it should get the appropriate attention and dealt with accordingly.

I also agree he’s a dickhead. At least he was in my opinion when I used to watch it occasionally.

As for the term “dobbing” I would prefer the correct term “reporting”. The former has a negative connotation and informing the authorities of inane and damaging behaviour such as bullying etc, is a duty. And yes, i am being pc but not apologising. About time we stood up to moronic, malicious behaviour.

One of my brothers knows people who know him (I don’t know how well exactly) and the bro reckons the Footy Show persona is all an act and Sam is actually a nice bloke off the telly. I’m sure there is some truth to that but I still reckon you see a fair slice of the ‘real’ Sam Newman on the telly.

Back to Sam: He’s a renowned womaniser who has lost his ‘bottle’ and now (because he can’t get it any more, or can’t get it up) he takes it out on them.

But I think some onlooker must have dobbed him in to the police.

This show gave him such a high profile that he started to believe he was something extra special, he has come to represent the worst aspects of blokey sportsdom, especially the misogynistic side, acts like a spoiled 2-year-old, has driven lots of former fans away from the TV show, and insulted the heaps of women without whom football would fall over on its backside – including one of its best newspaper columnists. Eddie McGuire used to keep him in check, but now he rules the roost of his grubby media domain.

I tried to watch the Footy Show on Thursday night, after many years, but his whole demeanor oozed self-importance and disdain. I don’t know why the police got involved, but perhaps it was for the damage he intentionally (allegedly) did to her car, and the abuse – isn’t that considered to be a form of assault?

Anyway, bad luck to him, the prat.
