AFL round 16 ‘Round-Up’

Posted in AFL footy by Ray Dixon on 23 July, 2009

Better late than never

As I explained in previous posts, I’m running a bit behind in new posts this week. Round 16 is done & dusted and the only reason I’m putting this up is not to break the pattern of the year, which has seen St Kilda win 16 straight so far. So here is the round up of last weekend’s games:

Essendon lost to Bulldogs : It was strange watching this game, as neither side has a properly constructed forward line so it was a case of who could run the lines the best.

Carlton defeated Sydney : It’s kind of sad watching the once feared Swans fail to put any real pressure on their opponents. Carlton can’t handle close checking and heavy tackling yet they won by 10 goals, which tells you how far Sydney has fallen.

Geelong defeated Melbourne : This game was over at 1/4 time with Geelong kicking 7 goals to none and then coasting home. I reckon Geelong came out fired up after Melbourne’s coach made some pretty dumb comments about them in the media.

Fremantle lost to Brisbane : Zzzzzzz …… enough said.

Collingwood lost to Hawthorn : No, they’re not “back”;Hawthorn usually towels C’wood up and I’m kicking myself for overlooking that.

Pt Adelaide defeated West Coast : And no one in the real world could give a stuff.

Richmond tanked drew with Nth Melbourne : After the Tigers were 7 goals up at half time. Did they try to throw it (again)?

St Kilda defeated strangled Adelaide : The Crows’ supporters sitting nearby were pretty vocal in the first quarter but after half time they just sat there in disbelief occasionally saying to each other “how can you beat them?” It was an awesome shut-down that had to be seen at the ground to be believed.

Highlight of the round : Hard to go past the Saints stunning display and 16th straight win.

Lowlight: The Saints supporter sitting behind me who whistled loudly after every St Kilda goal. It nearly pierced my ear drums.

Tipping: Ray 7, Baldrick 6 (I’ve given us a point each for the draw)

Year to date: Ray 92, Baldrick 90

Very good Ray. Please remember about Collingwood next time – I nearly got a perfect score.

Baldrick, I think you should step up to the plate tonight, as Ray is so busy. ;)

    It’s tipping night!

They’re in, Rox, and they’ll both go up tonight. Poor Baldrick has ‘dropped the ball’, I think. Must be a Geelong thing.

So has Gary Ablett by the look of it. Can they win?

No, they’ll lose. See tips (finally up!)
