Wally just won’t go away

The strumming serial pest is at it again.

“….. they should be stopping work before it goes much further.” ~ Lee ‘Wally’ Rosser articulating his opposition to the progress of the new Woolies supermarket in Bright.

Have a read of this press statement put out by the Alpine council late today, Monday 2 November, following a meeting with ‘ex’ Save Bright spokesperson Lee ‘Wally’ Rosser and his ‘ex’ Save Bright stuff-ups, and see what you make of it.

I think it’s just ‘Wally’ trying to disrupt progress again - which is no surprise, as the bloke is a complete hillbilly & retrograde - but make up your own mind.

My further comments are below:

Woolworths wall dispute likely to go to VCAT

Following initial advice from its barrister, Alpine Shire Council looks likely to seek a declaration from VCAT to address the community’s concerns over the wall heights at the Woolworths supermarket being built in Bright.

Alpine CEO, Ian Nicholls said the application to VCAT would provide advice on a way forward following four weeks of negotiation.

“We started down the line of negotiating because of the feeling that the walls were higher than many in the community anticipated. This negotiation has involved affected property owners, the builders and Woolworths management,” Mr Nicholls said.

Then Council last week asked for an independent survey.

“The survey determined that the new construction appears to comply with the levels shown on the approved drawings, however these plans featured the existing Star Hotel which was not accurately drawn to scale. Therefore, what is shown on the drawings as a slight difference in wall height between the two buildings is actually a bigger difference now that the walls have been built. Members of the community have expressed their concern about this,” he said.

Mr Nicholls said Council today met with interested community representatives including some who were formerly associated with the Save Bright group.

“We provided them with an update and agreed to investigate the matter further. We will now wait on final advice from our barrister.”

Comment:

Lee ‘Wally’ Rosser was also on ABC radio today ahead of the meeting calling for work to stop on the construction of the supermarket that this town so sorely needs. This is what he said:

“It is up to the responsible authority, which is the shire, that these conditions are met.”

“I think it’s fundamentally important that if there [are] any queries about the way, and they have the details sitting up there, then they should be stopping work before it goes much further.”

Yeah right, that makes a lot of sense, Wally. WTF is wrong with this bloke? Why does he not want to see any development in this town, and why does he continually harass and interrupt a very important project?

I don’t think the size of the Star Hotel has anything whatsoever to do with this project. The owner of the Star is NOT objecting and it is an independently owned property.

And, as Mr Nicholls says,  “The survey determined that the new construction appears to comply with the levels shown on the approved drawings.”

So, why don’t you just piss off, Lee ‘Wally’ Rosser, and stop trying to interfere? For Christ’s sake, grow up!

Can someone – anyone- explain Mr Rossers involvement – is he a ratepayer nearby whose residence or business is adversely impacted by a wall that is now independently proven to be as per the VCAT approved design, or is there some other motivation.

These are our rates being spent on barristers opinions etc. Get over it Mr Rosser.

I am thrilled to see the amount of local trades being employed on the project and am happy for those who will have another option for employment & for the rest of us who will have an alternative to shop at locally.

Perhaps Wal can fill in the gaps??

Well said, Percy. I think the best that can be said about Lee is that he has a different vision of what Bright should be. He seems to think it can survive without commercial progression & development and that we should all revert to growing our own vegies and then attracting tourists who want to come here for ‘the simple life. The problem is though, it’s all too Utopian and far removed from reality. We’d go broke waiting for that to ever work.

Anyway, he’s certainly determined to interfere, delay and generally make trouble for this extremely important project. It’s rather anti-community in my opinion and very self-centred.

As for ‘Wal’ the anonymous weirdo, disident & malcontent, well it seems to me that Lee IS Wal, and unless someone can prove to me otherwise I’ll continue to say that.

It’s a similar scenario in Corryong, where some of the locals are against the growth of tourism in the town, for fear of having to lock their cars when parking in the main street. They like their town just the way it is.

Honest, I actually heard that first hand.

But, truth is, if they don’t want progress (and this applies to the tossers in Bright too) move out and find somewhere more to your liking, seeing the majority of ratepayers are happy to see the growth.

I believe you about Corryong, JR. I’ve been to (or rather through) that town and it’s very pretty … and very, very remote. Even more remote than Bright. I don’t think they need to worry about tourism taking over the town – it’s just too far from anywhere.

Btw, the drive from there to Thredbo & Jindabyne is truly spectacular and one of the great undiscovered parts of the country.

If there is any suggestion that misinformation has been used in determining the outcome of this dispute, it should be investigated without fear or favour.

    {Edit: The remainder of the comment has been edited out. Please refrain from personal attacks. If you want to support Lee’s position then please explain why and please do not try to turn your focus on me. – RD}

It IS going to be “investigated”, Neil, did you not read Mr Nicholl’s press statement above? He is taking it to VCAT to get a ruling (out of sessions, I’d suggest) on whether or not the out-of-scale drawings of the Star Hotel has any bearing on the approval conditions.

I think (well, no, I’m positive) you’ll find that VCAT will say it is irrelevant, as long as the walls of the supermarket are the correct height – which they are. You see, I don’t think a developer is required to also measure and draw to scale a building that is not part of the development and does not belong to him. This is a storm in a teacup.
