Wally’s hopes dashed (again)

Posted in Alpine Shire Council, Bright Australia by Ray Dixon on 8 November, 2009

In case you’re wondering why there has been no work on the Bright Woolworths building site since last Thursday, it’s my understanding that workers have had to move out of the adjoining Acacia Motel to accommodate bookings for the current Hot Rod weekend, which were booked 12 months ago. The workers had been staying at Acacia for some months and will return on Tuesday when work on the building site will resume.

So, despite what Lee ‘Wally’ Rosser is claiming elsewhere, the stop-work had nothing whatsoever to do with his beat-up about the wall heights - the supermarket is proceeding as per its plans. Bad luck (again) Wally.

Ray, they will be back into it from tomorrow – Monday. All the fill has been delivered over the weekend for Monday where it will be placed inside the supermarket and be stabilised so they can finish the floor slab around the inside perimeter. Then same company will also be placing the fill in the access and loading bay area to bring it up to the correct levels for concreting. Prior to concreting they will place these huge retention tanks in the ground to cater for the one in a hundred year storm. These tanks are designed to slow the water flow into the storm water drains. You can actually see some of them stored in the front area near the Acacia motel but there is a lot more to come. They are also full steam ahead on the Great Alpine Road frontage and Star Road corner where they have replaced the storm water pipes with larger ones, put in new drainage pits, relocated all the telephone cables and this Tuesday they should start relocating the power lines underground from the Acacia Motel up to the Star Hotel plus a new pole set back from the Star Road corner as that corner will be cut back to allow the trucks to turn. The structure for the 4 shops can then be commenced with much of the street services having been relocated.

Yep, it’s full steam ahead, despite what ‘Wally’ (Lee) is trying to imply. The VCAT matter is a fait au complait in that they will simply say the out-of-scale drawings of the Star Hotel has no bearing on the validity of the approved drawings for the supermarket and, provided the structure complies with those drawings (which it does), there is no issue.

Dear Ray, I would suggest you get all your facts straight before you start ’suggesting’ you know who Wal Willow is!

No worries ‘Lou’, if you’ve got some “facts” you’d like to enlighten me of, then go right ahead.

Lou – your comments will not be published if they are along the lines of the one above and your most recent one (which I have trashed). If you want to ’set me straight’ on anything just send an email to ray@grevilleagardens.com. Thanks.

Have just seen the Prime news – “Bright Residents at loggerheads with Woolies”. The only anti Woolies spokesperson was Lee Rosser whose comments that ” We will ensure that the terms of the VCAT approval are adhered to” (perhaps my quote is a bit off but the substance is correct) are as self serving as they are incorrect as to the breadth of local feeling on the issue.

Tell me Lee (or thru your avatar Wal) what mandate you have to speak for the residents of Bright many of whom will welcome Woolies as a competitive alternative to IGA? -and while you are at it tell us your qualifdications to achieve the keep the constructors honest pledge..

How much more convenient will it be if the newsagent relocates to one of the specialty shops. No need then to go up to the village as the Post Office is also down there. If this happens it will fit your vision for Bright (unchanged) and maybe you could get the National Trust to give Ireland Street a classiufication to ensure development takes place elsewhere.

Lets agree Lee (Wal) that I won’t be your spokesman on this issue if you will offer me the same courtesy. Perhaps it would have been more correct for you to have said ” A smallnumber od Bright residents are at loggerheads with Woolies but the majority could not care less”

This is not a personal attack, but a response to what I and a number of others regard as a misrepresentation of their views on an important issue by Mr Rosser on national television.

I really wonder what Lee’s true agenda is, Percy. What does he hope to achieve? Looking at him tonight with his unkempt appearance and long unwashed hair, I was reminded of the crazies over in Europe protesting the G-20 meetings and the like.

In my opinion Lee ‘Wally’ Rosser is nothing but an agitator and is not acting in this town’s best interests. And he has a real gall to go around stirring up all this media hype over a simple planning issue that WILL be resolved.

Don’t worry, Percy, Woolies will go ahead – and if Lee is thinking of organising boycotts when it opens he better think again. That would be asking for confrontation and I, for one, will certainly take him on.
