Police “disgusted” with locals’ behaviour

‘Wally’ please note: it’s not the visitors causing the problems

With apologies to the Bright Observer, I think it’s worth reproducing this article from page 2 of today’s paper in its entirety. The article speaks for itself, or rather the police do the speaking: The only problems stemming from the Bright Hot Rod event were caused by drunken local youths. My further comments follow:

Comment:

Contrary to what some locals (such as Save Bright’s Lee ‘Wally’ Rosser) would have you believe, the Rodders and the visitors are generally not to blame for the drunkenness, fights and general anti-social behaviour that unfortunately sometimes attaches itself to this magnificent and unique event.

I have now seen 14 of the 19 Rod Runs and have dealt first-hand with the visitors (via both my accommodation business and the restaurant we use to run) and I have never – repeat NEVER – come across a single person who I would describe as undesirable or unwelcome in this town. They are generally fine, well-behaved and mature people who show respect for the town that is their host.

No, the problem (as usual) comes from the local youths who see this event as yet another opportunity to get pissed and cause a bit of mayhem. A lot of them are underage so what the hell are their parents doing about it?

My congratulations to the police for the fine job they have done in controlling this massive crowd. And my condemnation of every single local who has a bad word to say about the Hot Rod event. Get your own act together and keep your kids in line – you’re a disgrace!
