Ablett bails out

Posted in AFL footy by Ray Dixon on 30 January, 2010

The news that AFL Brownlow Medal winner and Geelong superstar Gary Ablett (Junior) has split from his long-term partner, Lauren Phillips, after 7 years together raises a number of questions, the main one being does this sudden display of disloyalty also suggest he’s about to accept the big dollars on offer to leave Geelong and head north to the new Gold Coast team at the end of this year?

Ablett is out of contract after 2010 and Geelong are anxious for him to recommit despite the reported lure of $1.5 million per year that the Gold Coast have tempted him with. But, as this news suggests, committment may not be Junior’s strong suit.

Anyway, according to the news report, “there were no third parties involved” in Ablett’s & Phillips’ split-up, so I can only conclude the reason was one (or more) of the following:

  1. Phillips got tired of waking up next to a bald gnome and decided she wanted a man with hair.
  2. Junior holds grave fears that Lauren may actually be the love child of his infamous father, Gary Ablett Senior, who was known to chase the young girls around.
  3. Gary Ablett Junior is about to come out and admit he’s as gay as the rest of the Geelong boys.

Take your pick.

(PS: Geelong fans, don’t throw a tantrum, it’s all in good fun!)

You know in some languages, a J is pronounced like a Y. Taking this to its logical conclusion, Ablett’s initials are G A Y. So 3, for sure.

You knew I’d respond Raymond. My mail is that Phillips is off to Queensland and he refuses to go.

And for the record, I’d gladly be lumped with the handbag label again. Premiership trophies in them now.
