Anonymous defamer caught

Posted in Bright Australia by Ray Dixon on 25 February, 2010

LEGAL counsel Martin Bennett has a short message for those who allow themselves to attack reputations over the internet, imagining they are safe under the cloak of anonymity:

“You can be hunted down and found”

Mr Bennett has done just that for a Perth client, winning $30,000 in damages and costs, an apology, and undertakings from a Colac man that he won’t post any more defamatory comments. ~ The Age 25/2/10

This is bad news for those who go around the Internet anonymously slandering others and especially for those who set up anonymously authored copycat blogs specifically designed to defame & discredit their targets, like the locally-based one that WordPress closed down earlier this month for that very same reason. Next time (if there is one) I might give Mr Bennett a call instead.

I rather like this quote attributed to D.H Lawrence…..

“Curse the blasted, jelly-boned swine’s, the slimy, the belly-wriggling invertebrates, the miserable soddingrotters, the flaming sods, the snivelling, dribbling, dithering, palsied, pulse-less lot that make up England today. They’ve got white of egg in their veins, and their spunk is that watery it’s a marvel they can breed.”
    - – - D. H. Lawrence, 1912

Maybe take out the reference to England and insert your own thoughts. The last point is sadly true, they can and do breed.

Beautifully put, Elephantandrat. Ironically, I watched the ABC special tonight @ 8.30 on the Neanderthals and how scientists are saying they didn’t actually die out and, instead, they interbred with homo sapiens. Meaning there are still Neanderthals amongst us today. There are more than a few around here.

g’day cunt face. how zit all goin? real bastards them anonymous people aren’t they, they should be shot. just imagine if they went over the top and say they sent anonymous letters to local schools, churches, tourist offices, sports clubs not directly accusing but merely speculating that a motel owner could be a pedophile and he could potentially be using his motel as a base for a pedophile ring to work out of. Imagine. anonymous, no direct accusations, just a warning that maybe there could be the potential of an unconfirmed pedophile in our midst. But I don’t reckon anyone around here would be mean enough to do something like that. It’ll never happen. what do you think fuck face?

Reply: I hope you try. The police love investigating that sort of stuff and you’ll end up in jail. (I’ll leave your comment & this response here for a while, just so others can see what a nasty piece of work we have in our midst – Ray)

They don’t have to be “direct accusations”, anne, to be regarded as criminal acts. You’ve already broken a few laws with your threat to do this and if you go ahead you will have broken several more and, as Ray says, you’ll end up in the slammer. Don’t think you can’t be traced either. I agree with Ray – I hope you try, and that you get caught, dirtbag.

    Misuse of a telecommunications device
    Making threats
    Misuse of postal services
    False representation
    Criminal libel
    Harassment
    Stalking

I’m sure the police could come up with a few more charges.
