World Cup Round 2 Tipping
Here are the 8 games to be played in Rd 2 (starting from tonight, I think).
We still need Baldrick to explain how this is going to work in the event a game goes to a penalty shoot out *: (more…)

It’s Blockbuster round
There are only 3 games to cover this week but one of them makes it all worthwhile. Go on, have a wild guess which game I’m talking about. Here are ‘the experts’. Last week’s results (from 5 games) & YTD are in brackets: (more…)

This blog is ”on hold”. It might resume at some stage but I’m not sure yet.
World Cup tipping part 2
This is a guest post by Baldrick.
(I’ll update it when he can come up with more than two sentences):
Here are the next lot of games.
Will list them now before we decide on what if anything happens at the end of the regular 3 games each. (more…)
AFL round 13 ‘expert’ tips (part 1)
It’s D*ckhead Round
Just when it looked liked I’d have no lead story as an intro to this week’s tips, along comes this loathsome creature from the past, rising like some prehistoric knuckle-grazer from the murky swamps of a bygone era where footballers told racist jokes about “abos” and got away with it – Mal Brown.
Mal who? Well may you ask.
This neanderthal played in Western Australia in the 60s & 70s but was never good enough to make it in the VFL playing just 14 games for Richmond in 1974 before being sent home in disgrace. Who the hell is this moron to make racist remarks about the likes of the great Nicky Winmar who, unlike Brown, could actually play a bit? “Cannibals”, eh? Bloody hilarious. Brown looks like he’s eaten more than his share of the human race and then some. Fat guts, fat head and fat for brains. Go back to the swamp.
That feels better! Here are the ‘expert’ tips for part 1 of round 13 with last week’s results … etc: (more…)
Roy & HG honoured
It’s great news that the comedy duo Rampaging Roy Slaven (John Doyle) & H.G. Nelson (Greig Pickhaver), otherwise known as ‘Roy & HG’, have been awarded an Order of Australia in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list. It’s just a pity that the TV stations dropped the dynamic duo as too ‘risky’ (or whatever reason it was) after their magnificent & hilarious Olympic ‘The Dream’ shows. We need them back. For God’s sake, they leave the likes of Rove and other modern-day so-called comics for dead. And they’d do it too – if the money were right. Please enjoy this video of their ABC interview recorded yesterday. They’ve still got it:
Hey, it’s 1994
This story about a British woman stuck in a real life Groundhog Day would be funny if it were not so sad. Michelle Philpots has had no short-term memory since 1994 due to head injuries she suffered years before then. Her memory constantly resets itself meaning she wakes up every morning thinking it’s 16 years ago:
“I can really relate to the film Groundhog Day. When I wake up everything outside my window is the same, its hard to explain, but everyday to me is the same normal day. It’s like I am living the same day after day.”
From reading the article it seems that Michelle’s entire memory is wiped, as she also has no recollection of events before 1994, so it’s not exactly a Groundhog Day experience, in that she starts each day knowing bugger all. BUT this has got me wondering what it really would be like to wake up every day thinking it’s still 1994. For instance:
- Liberal voter walks into work: “I’m so glad Alexander Downer has got the job as Opposition leader; he’ll be our next PM”.
- Home buyer calls real estate agent: “Right, I’ve made up my mind. I’m going to make an offer on that lovely 2-storey terrace house in Albert Park, but the $150,000 they’re asking is far too much.”
What else would you think, say or do if you woke up believing that you’re still in 1994? Here are a few more examples: (more…)

It’s SNOW round
The ski season is about to start and there’s plenty of snow on the ground. I hear there’s even some in Geelong & Fremantle. And Launceston dealers traders are getting ready for a big weekend when Hawthorn comes to town. Happy snorting skiing. Here are the ‘experts’ with last week’s results & YTD in brackets. We have a new leader, although he’ll go off the ball soon as he’s more focused on what is about to happen in South Africa. I wonder how much ‘snow’ they have over there?: (more…)
This makes me feel like throwing up
I can’t help it. Even though I’ve got plenty else to do and I am not yet returning to blogging, I feel absolutely compelled to put this up. I don’t have time right now to write a full post and say exactly why I feel the miners are conducting a despicable, untruthful and entirely self-serving campaign against the Government’s proposed mining ‘super tax’ (on super profits) but these photos of billionaires, their employees and Julie Bishop conducting a faux protest with their company printed placards & slogans make me want to run to the little room. More later, but just look at this photo (and the one ‘over the fold’) and try to keep your food down. (more…)
World Cup round 1 tipping
PLEASE NOTE
I’ve stuck this post to the top for the duration of the World Cup Round 1. Newer (& older) posts start below.
My break from blogging while I attend to some other matters is ongoing, but I better get this up for our resident round-ball enthusiast, Baldrick. Here are the matches for round one of the FIFA World Cup, you know … the soccer tournament. You can send your tips by email (alpineopinion@gmail.com) or by simply putting them in the comments:
AFL round 11 ‘expert’ tips
I might be officially absent from new posts at the moment and up to my neck in other duties, but despite that I cannot let down the millions of punters (worldwide) who hang out for the weekly AO ’expert’ tips. So, as promised, here they are … in brief. Last week’s results & YTD are in brackets: (more…)
World Cup Tipping
No, I am not breaking my break from blogging, I am just starting this post off for Baldrick.
Apparently there is a little event happening over in the South of Africa coming up in less than 2 weeks time and, as it only comes around every 4 years and, as there are a lot of ’round ball enthusiasts’ out there, a tipping contest has been proposed.
All yours, Baldrick – please explain.
Too busy
For the next week or so (or maybe longer) I won’t be making any new posts – with the exception of Friday’s AFL ‘expert’ footy tips of course, for which I am paid huge license fees for its world-wide syndication (*).
I’ve got a project on the go that is going to consume most of my waking hours. But I’ll be back (to haunt you).
(* Please don’t tell Baldrick, Greg & Rox about the license fees – they might want a share)
