AFL round 22 ‘expert’ tips
Congratulations Greg Naylor
The 2010 AO AFL Tipping ‘expert of experts’.
Rd 22 results: Ray: 5 (114) – - Baldrick: 3 (100) … thanks for not trying! – - Greg: 6 (116) WINNER – - Rox: 3 (107)
It’s ‘Independents Round’

The 3 amigos from the bush - Mad Bob Katter, Farmer Tony Windsor & Happy-pill-boy Rob Oakeshott - meet in Canberra to decide the question that is on all our lips - "Who will win the AO tipping contest?"
Now that the election result seems pretty well settled, how much longer will ‘The 3 amigos’ from the bush make us hold our collective breaths before they decide whether Julia Gillard or Tony Abbott will be our next PM? While the Coalition is one seat ahead at 73-72, there’s every possibility that the independents will still opt for Gillard and give her an unlikely come-from-behind victory.
Hmm, it’s much like the Alpine Opinion tipping contest where, presently, Greg leads yours truly by the narrowest of margins @ 110-109 as we go into the final round. And, just like the election result, the whole nation is watching!
So here are the ‘experts’ tips (Note: In the interest of fairness I have not, as of the time of making this post, seen Greg’s tips, which are being held by Rox. Likewise he has not seen mine): (more…)
Election 2010
Gillard by one seat?
Update: Buggered if I know!
I’ve used Antony Green’s very accurate State-by-State election calculator to come up with this predicted result – a win to the ALP by just one seat.
The swings I’ve used are pretty consistent with the opinion polls and show an overall national swing to the coalition of 1.3% with the two-party preferred vote being ALP 51.4% Coalition 48.6%.
State-by-State I’ve allowed a swing to Abbott of 4% in both Queensland & W.A., 3% in N.T. and 1.5% in NSW. In Victoria I’ve factored in a 1.5% swing to Labor. I’ve left Tasmania, South Australia and the A.C.T. at status quo, as they are not expected to affect the result.
Of course, I could be well out here.

It’s HATE COLLINGWOOD round
If it’s good enough for PM Julia Gillard to say it, then it’s good enough for me. I HATE COLLINGWOOD too and I’m glad she got that dig in. Unfortunately though, there’s a fair chance it might go down as famous last words, with both Collingwood and Abbott looking likely to spoil the party and pull off a rather unpalatable win in their respective races for the top position. Gotta laugh at Collingwood’s cheer squad leader Joffa though:
MAGPIES fanatic Joffa says Julia Gillard is “finished” after the Prime Minister declared her hatred for Collingwood.
“For a Prime Minister to jump on the anti-Collingwood bandwagon, I reckon it’s a bit poor,” Joffa said.
“The Greens have got my vote.
“Give us a break, we don’t need that stuff on the national political stage.
“I have gone to the Greens, she’s finished.”
Give you a break, Joffa? No. We hate you too. It can’t happen can it? We can’t have Abbott as PM and Collingwood as premiers all in the one year can we? It’s enough to make you want to move … to New Zealand.
Let’s see what the ‘experts’ say: (more…)

It’s ‘The NBN round’
Thanks to that ’non-tech-head’ and blissfully ignorant Tony Rabbott and his frank but stupid admission that he knows nothing about the Internet - yet is still proposing to spend $6 billion upgrading an outdated and underperforming system into another outdated and underperforming system - I think I’ll dedicate round 20 to that hot issue.
Just for the hell of it.
Let’s do a little Julia Gillard classroom-style exercise here:
- Hands up those who say, “Fibre optic cable is the way to go.”
- Now hands up those who say, “No, I love the inefficient copper wire and dud wireless systems, let’s stick with those”.
Oh, I think we have an overwhelming majority for option one – the NBN.
Bad luck Mr Rabbott, better luck to you (oh, sorry, I meant to Malcolm) in the 2013 election.
What’s all this got to do with footy? Well, nothing, but I couldn’t let the opportunity go by.
So, here are ‘the experts’ – it’s getting close and anyone of us could win this (well, except Baldrick maybe?): (more…)

It’s “The Real AFL” round
Andrew Demetriou is never one to fail to keep up with the news. And with modern trends. According to Andrew, if Julia Gillard can reinvent herself as ‘The Real Julia’ then he can do the same for the AFL.
Welcome to ‘The Real AFL’, you know, the one we always knew was there but wouldn’t show itself.
And, in keeping with this wipe-the-slate-clean approach, let’s just forget that we already had ‘The game of the year’ in Rd 13 between Geelong & St Kilda (won by you know who) and ‘The game of the century’ in Rd 14 last year (also won by you know who), and let’s call tomorrow’s clash between Geelong & Collingwood all that.
Don’t worry that these games between The Handbaggers & The Scum usually end up as an anti-climax and a blow out one way or the other (last time Geelong belted Collingwood by playing boring kick-it-around-the-back-line footy ad nauseam). No. This IS the real deal and the winner of this game is truly “Team of the year” and “Team of the century” and … “Premiers”. Who needs the finals in September to sort that out?
With this in my mind I bring you “the real experts” and their tips (don’t worry, it’s the same faces but with the word “real” added): (more…)
